Our Adjusting Style

There are several styles of adjusting within the chiropractic profession and this can be confusing sometimes to someone new to the chiropractic experience. There is one thing that should be clear, however, and that is the goal of the adjustment. The goal of a chiropractic adjustment is to restore a subluxated/misaligned spine to its proper motion/alignment thereby removing stress to the central nervous system. The art and skill of the individual chiropractor lies in his/her ability to analyze the location of the subluxation and to deliver the precise and specific adjustment to correct it. Generally there are 3 different ways to adjust the spine:

  1. Using a hands-on approach.
  2. Using a specifically designed table to assist in the adjustment process.
  3. Using a specifically designed instrument to assist in the adjustment process.
Is is important to understand that there does not have to be a “crack” in order for an adjustment to take place. In fact, the term “crack” is horribly misleading and we would prefer that you do not use that term (you wouldn’t ask a surgeon to “cut me up”).

At Family First, we use a combination of all 3 different ways to adjust the spine and rest assured we will use the appropriate style for you. We take pride in our ability to deliver precise, comfortable and pain-free adjustments with no forceful manipulation (we don’t like that term either). In many cases, our practice members have brought in “nervous” friends and family to observe their adjustments to allow them to see just how comfortable the adjustment process is. If you have concerns, you have an open invitation to come and discuss your concerns with our doctors before beginning care. We have techniques suitable for all ages, from the infant to the severely osteoporotic 100 year old. If we don’t, rest assured that we will help find you the right chiropractic office that does.
